The trike is down with engine issues. Saturday should be okay for scooter towing and Sunday we should clear and fly Richmond Dale.

Is Richmondale site even "launchable ". Last time I was there, grass was 3 feet tall.

The road up to the launch site is what needs extensive repair. There are ruts so deep that if your car was to slip into one, you would be hopelessly stuck. I had Eric from Pennsylvania help me get up the hill with my little Prius. I'll never bring my Prius up that hill again until it's repaired.

Unfortunately the club is not responsible for the road maintenance. I would like to thank Larry and Erick for helping with hill taming. It was relatively easy cutting with the heavy grass that usually wraps around your blade already dead and flattened on the ground. We got the upper launching area safe for hang gliders to launch. The PG guys had already mowed the top of the hill earlier this summer. With the bramble in a dying to dead state, it wouldn't take as long to cut the rest of the hill. The main problem was the woody stems, mainly Sassafras that had grown 2 feet plus since last year. If it doesn't get cut this year and grows another 2 feet, by the time somebody gets around to cutting it next year, it may take chainsaws to cut it. Hope we can get a few more volunteers to help with cleaning the rest of the hill. Imagine being dragged down through the tall brambles if you PG didn't properly inflat or catching your base bar or side wires on the 4 foot + tall brambles. Ouch. Food for thought. Thanks

I think a "Taming the Hill Party" is in order. Anyone who has flown and still enjoys flying this site needs to pull forces together and kick it in the butt before things get overgrown and unmanageable. If certain areas are not already. Smooth airflow and no obstacles are key to all safe launches at this site. No matter what aircraft (just to re-emphasize what Larry stated). Maybe we could start a survey to see what date will work best for everybody. As far as equipment goes I can rent some brush trimmers. Just need to know date in advance to reserve them. I will supply the "after work beverages".
