Default SoCal XC is not always fun

I wish I'd gone bowling instead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybOSKEO78Oc

Crestline - Keller Peak - Mountain Home Peak - Seven Oaks Dam - Mentone Bailout. Low flying, turbulence, glassy air, headwinds, honey bees, surface heat, dust devils, retrieve by cell phone. What fun! 1hr 58min. 19.1 mi max distance. Excellent practice flight w/ plenty of subtitles and Shirley Manson's soothing voice.

Now Jonathan,

I have a question for you. Why fly with a full face if you never use the visor? Think how much further you could possibly fly! Just messing with you lol! Another gread vid!

Very funny Eric. I'm prone to watering eyes and can't safely fly without the visor. Otherwise, I'd need vented goggles. How many times did I fiddle w/ the visor in this video? I think I spend as much time tweaking my visor as my VG rope.

Default Another Turbulent SoCal XC

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01mXl7156Tc

Here's a short (< 30mi, <3 hr) flight on Sunday from Mt Laguna to Borrego Springs where it was 112 deg F where I landed. There was a lot of unpleasant turbulence that made the glider feel like it was going to roll over. The last climb at the small mountain in the middle of a desert basin was a one-mile gain and smooth. I hated to leave the cool air at 7800' knowing I was going to get roasted on my way down to near sea level. I had to lower my visor as I made my landing approach to keep the air from burning my eyes.

Enjoy! Jonathan

Indeed it was. Tuesday OTOH was great fun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJ07udYDOVA I hope to learn about good happenings in the Mid-West before the season is over! I always enjoy reading OHF flight reports. It's a different flying experience that reminds me of being back in Illinois. I don't have the means to travel so I also fly vicariously.

Smile Sunday's XC Was Fun

http://youtube.com/watch?v=IIBRXj533SQ 50-mile circuit on Sunday.

The views of the L.A. Basin and mountains and the trip to/from the Mt Wilson Observatory and antenna farm were spectacular. Thanks to the lighting the video quality is pretty good from the GoPro HD. http://www.paraglidingforum.com/leonardo/flight/519997
